Madeira trip February 2017
Madeira is a paradise for walkers as it enjoys a subtropical climate and is cross-crossed by a network of old paths and tracks. Walks by levadas (ancient water channels) range from relatively easy, incredibly scenic walks to more serious cliff and mountain walks. There are wooded valleys, rocky slopes, cultivated terraces, coastal cliffs, cloud forests and jagged peaks.
A month ago, we left the cold grey English winter for the warmth and colour of this subtropical island staying near Funchal at a beautiful, spacious and historic house with lovely gardens, tennis courts, BBQ and other essential mod cons.
