The forecast is pretty hot on the upcoming bank holiday weekend, so I've re-jiggged my planned cycle rides as follows: This Saturday 24th August. The originally planned cycle ride from Witham to Hythe has been put back to Sunday 1st September when the weather should hopefully be a bit cooler. Instead we are cycling to the sea-side on both Saturday and Monday! Opportunities for paddling in the sea on both rides. The replacement cycle ride for this Saturday will go from Thorpe-le-Soken to Walton-on-Naze and the Monday cycle ride will now go from Herne Bay to Ramsgate Thorpe-le-Soken to Walton-on-Naze Saturday 24th Auguest We cycle out of Thorpe-le Soken going past st Andrew's church then south to St Osyth and then hit the coast at Seawick and we follow Cycle Route 150 through Clacton and Frinton to Walton on the Naze. We will probably have lunch in Clacton, probably the toby carvery by the sea: We could stop for afternoon tea further along the route as well. When we get to Walton we can dismount and explore the Naze nature reserve, admire the views and perhaps go up to the top of the old sea mark tower. There is a cafe near the tower which does coffees and icecreams. We will see several Martello Towers along the route. The train back to London from Walton-on-the-Naze Bring a spare tube in case of punctures. Meeting Up Be on the train that leaves Stratford at 9:25 getting into Thorpe-le-Soken at 10:25 This trains starts at Liverpool St and stops at Shenfield and a few others stations along the way. By a super off-peak return to Walton-on-the-Naze £18.15 with discount card from Stratford. Bank Monday 26th August Thanet coast Cycle ride Herne Bay to Ramsgate Aug 26, 2019 (Cycling) We will be cycling from Herne Bay to Ramsgate along the coastal cycle path: cliffs and foreshore, sun and sky. Passing through charming seaside towns: Herne Bay, Birchington, Reculver, Margate and Broadstairs. We will be stopping for morning tea, lunch and probably afternoon tea. Plenty of eateries along the route so fixed places planned. Meeting up Fast train Be on the 9:32am Stratford International getting into Herne Bay at 10:45 but buy a Super Off Peak return to Ramsgate which costs £18.10 with discount card Slow train Be on the 9:10 train from Victoria, change at Gillingham and again buy a super off peak return to Ramsgate. PS Hazel and Kevin have also got a Kent cycle ride on 1st September.
